In Loving Memory of Kirsten: The Spark That Lit A Mama’s Apothecary

Yesterday, I lost someone who changed the course of my life - my dear friend Kirsten.
To most, she was a fiercely loyal friend, a bright presence, and a soul full of mischief and meaning. But to me, she was the reason A Mama’s Apothecary exists.
Kirsten didn’t just believe in natural living -she lived it. She was always the first to try anything I made, the loudest voice cheering me on, and the most relentless encourager behind my crafting. I still remember the moment she asked me to make her a tallow balm. She had no idea that simple request would end up changing my entire path.
When she tried it, she didn’t just thank me -she told me I had to share it."You need to start selling this," she said, wide-eyed and absolutely certain."Women need this. Mamas need this."
That seed she planted in me grew roots I didn’t even know I had. I wasn’t looking to start a business. I was a tired mum, just trying to figure out how to care for my family in a gentler, more natural way. But Kirsten saw something in me - in my craft -and she kept nudging, supporting, and championing the idea until I took the leap.
A Mama’s Apothecary was born with her words still ringing in my ears.
This business, this community, this slow and intentional way of living -it all carries her fingerprints. Every balm, butter, and candle I make has a little bit of Kirsten in it. Her belief in me gave me the courage to step into something bigger. Her love is laced into the very foundations of this brand.
I don’t know how to fully capture what it feels like to lose her. But I do know this: her legacy lives on. Not just in A Mama’s Apothecary, but in every mama who finds comfort in the jars we pour. In every customer who messages to say our tallow changed their skin. In every small act of healing, there’s a quiet echo of the woman who believed this mattered before I even did.
So this post is for you, Kirsten. For your laughter, your love, your persistence.Thank you for being the firestarter. Thank you for seeing me. You were -and always will be - the soul behind A Mama’s Apothecary.
I’ll keep pouring, blending, and crafting in your name.
And I’ll carry you with me in every batch.
With love and eternal gratitude,
Britt x
